Introduction

Calgary Weekend Guide: A Flexible 2-Day Itinerary A weekend in Calgary is enough time to combine downtown sightseeing, outdoor experiences, local food and—if you want a longer drive—a day trip. The best itinerary depends on your group’s interests, the season and the weather, so the plan below gives you flexible options rather than a rigid schedule.

Weekend Guide

Day 1: Downtown Calgary

Start with a central Calgary attraction and spend the morning exploring the downtown area. Stephen Avenue and the surrounding core can be combined with shopping, dining and cultural attractions. East Village is another useful area for a walk and attractions such as Studio Bell and the Central Library.

Culture and Music

Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, is a current cultural option in East Village. Visitors can explore exhibitions, interactive activities and music history. Glenbow should not be presented as an open museum right now; Glenbow is currently closed for renovations and is targeting a 2027 reopening at the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture.

Day 1 Evening: Dinner in Seton

Return to Seton for dinner at a local restaurant such as Boston Pizza Seton, Globefish Seton, Starbelly Open Kitchen & Lounge or another current option from the Restaurants in Seton guide. Check hours and reservations before leaving downtown.

Day 2: Outdoor Calgary

Use the second day for Fish Creek Provincial Park, Nose Hill Park, Prince’s Island Park or the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. The right choice depends on how much time you want outdoors and how far you want to travel.

Mountain Alternative: Banff or Canmore

Families can use the museum as the main activity and choose one or two outdoor stops afterward. This is easier than trying to see every attraction in Drumheller in a single day.

Badlands Alternative: Drumheller

Drumheller provides a completely different experience centred on fossils, badlands scenery and Alberta history. The Royal Tyrrell Museum can anchor the visit, with outdoor stops added according to the remaining time.

Plan Meals and Breaks

A weekend itinerary becomes easier when meals are treated as part of the plan rather than an afterthought. Seton provides convenient dining and grocery options close to VakayHaus, allowing guests to alternate between eating out and preparing meals at the property.

Weekend Packing

Check the weather before each day, especially if you are heading into the mountains. Bring comfortable footwear, layers and any activity-specific equipment. Leave room in the schedule for traffic and unexpected changes.

Return to VakayHaus

Keeping the same accommodation for the full weekend means guests can unpack once and use the property as their base between outings. After a day in Calgary or the surrounding area, returning to Seton can make the weekend feel more relaxed and organized.
